Why do I need to register to use the CAC?
We need to know who is using the CAC facilities and have your contact
information on file. The information you provide will not be shared with
any third parties and is secure on our web site. Only CAC administrative
staff can access this information.
Why can’t I use the computer for as long as I want?
The use of our computers is free for all registered users. We are providing
free service to assist those to don’t have any other means of using a
computer or accessing the Internet. In order to provide fair access for all
who desire it we have a standing limit of one hour per user session. If the
computers are not busy you may use them for longer periods with the
agreement of the site staff. If you wish to use computers for longer
periods, other options such as Internet Cafes, are available.
Why do you have limits on the use of the printers?
We have limited printer facilities that must be shared by all users. In
addition, there are costs for printer supplies such as paper and ink
cartridges. Therefore, we ask all users to use good judgment in using the
printers for legitimate purposes, such as printing school papers and
research, printing resumes, printing government forms that must be mailed,
etc. If our staff see excessive use of printers or use for personal reasons
they are authorized to request that you cease to use the printers for such
purposes.
Why do I have to sign-in and sign-out to use the computers?
In order for us to provide the right level of service, sufficient
computers, and good network access, it is important for us to keep track of
how much and how often our computers are used and for what purpose. The
sing-in and sign-out procedure only takes a minute when you arrive and
leave and our staff will be happy to explain how it works.
What happens if people break your rules?
Our goal is to provide a comfortable environment for all users and to
ensure that everyone has fair and equal access to all of the CAC services.
People who do not respect the CAC policies and procedures and their fellow
users will be advised of the policies and requested to comply. Persistent
undesirable behaviour may result in the removal of the user’s registration
and their right to use the facility.
Why do we have to pay for some courses and not others?
A primary goal of the CAC is to assist citizens on learning the basics of
how to use computers and the Internet, so these courses are offered for
free. Other more advanced courses provide the student with value beyond
basic computer literacy and have a nominal fee associated with them. The
CAC charges course fees only to cover the costs of providing the courses
and not for profit.
Why are you asking me all of these questions when I register?
It is important for use to understand as much about our users as possible
so that we can make sure we are providing the right services for your
needs. This information will help us understand basic statistics about who
wants to use the CAC and for what purposes.
